    2. Try to use a lower Tolerance

    The tight tolerances lead to high costs for most of the machined parts, especially when the parts are difficult to machine.

    Therefore, an engineer should check more for the technical notes and try to specify a lower tolerance if possible.

    3. Keep part design simple

    It is well known that big size and complexity features consume more machining time, drive up the cost accordingly. Therefore, it is wiser to design a shorter and simpler part.

    For example, undercuts are not good for machining and lead to more machining time. Therefore, it can save costs if keep fewer undercut features.

    There are two disadvantages to machining thin walls. First, it raises the rate of damaging the part from vibrations. Secondly, the operator has to use low cutting depths for thin wall features, this leads to an increase in machining times and costs.

    7. Stick to standard tool sizes

    It can save machining time when the part features correspond to common tool diameters. Besides, it is suggested to maintain the same hole diameter when designing a machined part, this can reduce tool changes, and leads to a faster process.

    8. Avoid deep cavities

    There are two reasons for this tip. First, deep cavity machining asks for specialized tooling once the cavities are 4X deeper than the tool diameter, this specialized tooling can increase more cost.
